Grant is a prolific composer and has specialised compositions for his solo drumset performances. He has several hours of solo drumset music of the highest calibre in both technical and listening experiences. It can be very difficult to know how he is playing and the pieces and which limbs are being used for what sounds. Have a listen to the music and follow through with the sheet music for the ultimate understanding as to what goes into these special solo drumset works.
Afro for One
Grant’s first full-scale solo composition for his large set up. One of his most popular pieces to play at schools shows!
Based off the folkloric african bembe’ style of drumming.
Developed around the contemporary Afro-Cuban Mozambique. The cowbell pattern is played with the left foot as the other limbs fill out the melodies and accompaniment.
Grant’s groundbreaking work introducing canonic ostinato patterns with the feet for 6 pedals.
Solo contemporary drumset composition at its finest! Rich in timbral contrasts and very digestible rhythmic layering.
A percussion tour de force. Almost 10 minutes of double bass drum ostinatos with multi-timbral percussive layering over the top.
A Brazilian inspired piece with a colourful and exciting arrangement for the solo drummer.
A fun piece with a healthy dose of Grove and double bass drums.
A mulit-timbral delight inspired by the conversations of crickets as day turned into night.
3 movements with Afro-Cuban influences and multi-limbed orchestrations.
